Violin Practice Tips for Beginners

There are several practice tips that can be used for beginners with a violin.

Atmosphere

The first tip is to create the right atmosphere for you. Some people are going to need a quiet place or other people are going to need a room that has more stimulation. But it is important to be consistent with the choice that you make. This is the best way to make sure that you are in the right mindset when you are practicing the violin. You should also make sure that everything that you need for practice is going to be close to you.

Warm up

The second tip is to make sure that you warm up before you start to practice the violin. This is one of the best ways to make sure that your muscles are going to be moving the way that you need them to when you are practicing the violin. This means that you will be taking the opportunity to prepare the body and mind for the work that you are about to do. Basically, you will be able to take stock in how you are feeling about practicing the violin on a regular basis.

Goal

The third tip is to set a goal for yourself. Therefore, you need to stay away from playing the same old music while you are trying to practice. You need to have a goal for each session that you are going to be practicing before you even start to practice the violin. This can help you to find that you are going to be able to progress a lot more effectively and quickly. This will allow you to break down all of the goals into smaller objectives that will be more focused. Therefore, you will have a greater sense of accomplishment.

Realistic

The fourth tip is to make sure that you are realistic. It is going to be a lot more effective for you to practice for a little bit and more often than trying to practice for a long period of time and getting burned out. It is important to remember that it is all about the quality of the work and not the quantity of the practice that you are doing. By being able to set small and realistic goals for yourself, then you will be able to overcome some of the areas that you are having trouble with while practicing.

Problems

The fifth tip is to make sure that you are able to identify and overcome some of the problems that you might be having while you are practicing. This means that you don’t need to try to play the same passage over and over again. Therefore, you don’t need to power through the problem that you might having and ignore it. It is important to figure out where you might be stumbling and work out why you might be having the problem in the first place. It is important to remember that not every problem can be approached the same way.

Notes

The sixth tip is to make sure to remember that being a musician is more than just playing the notes. You want to make sure that you can understand the instrument that you are playing and why the music that you are playing is written a certain way. You want to visualizing yourself playing the music in order to help yourself. You can picture yourself playing the music perfectly inside of your practice room or in a concert hall. It is also important to spend some time away from the violin so that you can hear it correctly.

Write

The seventh tip is to write your own music. This means that you don’t need to be afraid of scribbling on your own scores. This is the type of music that you are going to treasure so you will need to photocopy your score. Therefore, you will be doing whatever it takes so that you are going to have an easier time interpreting the music that you wrote. You can make a mental note some of the things that you missed the first time. You will need to remind yourself that there could be a change in the keys.

Record

The eighth tip is to record yourself while you are practicing. This will allow you to listen back at the session so that you can spot all of the things that you might want to consider doing differently. More than likely, you are not going to notice any of things while you are actually practicing. It might also be a good idea to film yourself instead of just recording. This means that you will notice that you have a lot of tension that you might not be aware of while you are trying to practice playing the violin.
