Invisalign – Benefits, and Procedure

While many of us may think that fixing misaligned teeth only helps to achieve a beautiful smile, it actually goes beyond that. It actually has a lot of health benefits such as prevention from gum disease and tooth decay. Invisalign is one of the procedures which can help you achieve these benefits.
The procedure of Invisalign is such that first and foremost you actually have to be a fit candidate for it so that it is actually effective for you. Babies who have baby teeth and adults with teeth that are still growing are not fit enough candidates. After a patient is approved for the procedure, then records are created such as photographs, dental impressions of your teeth, and two x-rays. The impressions of your teeth are scanned so that they have a detailed 3-D model for maximum precision. The teeth will be moved step by step in the computer for the desired position. There are multiple trays made, and it takes about 4 weeks for them to come back to the dentist’s office. Each tray is made to be worn two weeks at a time, and each tray will slightly straighten your teeth. There are of course some individual variations involved, but typically this process goes on until you get the desired result.
It is not just about a flawless smile but dentists suggest that crooked teeth can cause many additional oral problems. One of these is bite dysfunction when both of your jaws do not close as they should. Further problems include tooth loss, cavities, and gum problems. Erosion of tooth enamel and problems with speaking and eating are also included.
Teeth which are widely spaced or crowded make your gums more vulnerable to gum problems and infections. However, if these are fixed then the gums surround the teeth more firmly, giving them better defense against gum disease.
According to the New York Total Dental, there are additional benefits to Invisalign, and one of them is simply based on the benefits of straighter teeth. Properly aligned teeth provide better oral health, improved appearance, and teeth that may last a lifetime. Correcting your teeth can save you from a lot of problems such as bad breath, gum inflammation, chipping of teeth and tooth sensitivity. There are also much more serious issues which Invisalign can help you prevent and these include tooth loss.
Invisalign is a great alternative to braces as it is much more convenient and comfortable. Invisalign can move your teeth vertically, horizontally and can even rotate them! With Invisalign, there is no restriction to the foods you can eat during treatment because the aligners can be removed. It also promotes better oral hygiene, with normal brushing and flossing. The BPA-free plastic aligners are nearly invisible and most people won’t even realize you’re wearing them, as opposed to the look of traditional braces.
It is a great one-time investment which comes with lifelong ease. It is convenient and you do not have to worry about the very obvious and awkward appearance of braces as these are removable and invisible. You will not even have to go to the dentist often, just every four to six weeks. It is a very sophisticated procedure which comes with great precision.
