Home Remedies for Clogged Ears

Ears are one of the most sensitive parts of a human body. Their primary function is to respond to the various sound stimulus and maintain balance. However, they can be sometimes clogged due to different atmospheric or physical conditions.

Causes of Clogged Ears

Clogging of ears blocks the ear from sound waves and disrupts the hearing senses of an individual. Several factors result in the clogging of a human ear; these are provided below:

  • Cough and Cold
  • High altitude travel
  • Excess Production of Earwax
  • Various type of ear infections
  • Smoking
  • Presence of outer material in the ear canal

Whatever the reason be, ear clogging can be irritating and can cause pain in the ear. We will discuss various remedies that can be used to treat ear clogging at home.

Passive Remedies

These are some of the passive Home Remedies for Clogged Ears that can be tried at home to remove the clogging in ears. These techniques alter the pressure built in the ear and thus, can reduce clogging. Please note that these methods work for some people and not all.

  • Yawning
  • Swallowing
  • Chewing Gum
  • Pinching your nostrils and blowing hard
  • Salt Water Gargling

If you are facing clogged ears because of cold or cough, you can try gargling salt water to remove the excess mucus stored in ears. Saltwater reduces the amount of mucus present in the nose, throat, and ears. To do this, all you need is a pinch of salt and some water. Gargle with the solution at least 3-4 times. Do not swallow the water.

By Warming The Ear

Warming the ear can help in softening of the ear wax present in the ear canal of a human. As a result, the ear wax can flow down quickly through the ear. It can be done using three ways-

Using Warm Compress

Place a warm compress under the clogged ears for some time. The earwax will soften and gradually flow out of your ears.

Inhaling Steam – The other way to warm your ears is to inhale the steam. Just boil some water in a port until you see steam rising. Take a towel and cover your head and pot. Start inhaling the steam and replay it for some time.

Hot Bath – If you cannot try the above methods, you can opt for a hot steam bath. It has the same concept as inhaling the steam. The hot shower can cause heat around your ears and make the ear wax flow out of the ear.

Oiling the Ear

You can also try applying some mineral oil in your ears. All you need is a mineral oil container, a dropper, and some tissues. Carefully drop some oil inside the ear. Make sure that you do not drop more than five drops as it can increase the level of clogging. If the oil spills out, use tissues to clean it.

Conclusion

These were the various home remedies that can come in handy while treating clogged ears. Oiling the ear with mineral oils can help in decreasing the level of clogging. Warming the ears and gargling salt water can help in reducing cold and as a result, reduce the clogging in ears. If the above tactics do not work, you can try some of the passive remedies to treat the clogging. These are yawning, swallowing, chewing, and pinching the nostrils while blowing out hard.
