How to Protect Skin & Hair From Chlorine in a Swimming Pool

The chlorine in a swimming pool is very harsh on the skin and hair. To protect your skin from drying out or becoming irritated, it’s essential to take care of your body before going into the pool. This article will discuss how you can avoid chlorine damage while staying safe and healthy at the same time.

Let’s take a look at these tips.

1.Before entering the pool, give your hair a good rinse

Use a shampoo that is designed to remove chlorine from your hair. There are many of these shampoos on the market, but one standard product is called SwimSpray. Try it out before you go swimming – apply some in the shower or bathtub and make sure it doesn’t irritate your skin or eyes. Don’t rinse after using this particular kind of shampoo! That would defeat its purpose because if you don’t leave any residue behind on your hair, there will be nothing for the pool chemicals to cling onto.

2.Apply a hair mask before swimming

If you want to protect your hair from the risks of chlorine, it is a good idea to apply a hair mask before going into the pool. This will help seal in much-needed moisture and add strength. Chlorine can strip away natural oils that keep skin healthy and hydrated, which means that if you go swimming without appropriately protecting yourself beforehand, there’s a greater chance of developing dryness or even rashes on your face or body.

If this happens, consider buying products containing seaweed extract, such as Cetaphil Dermacontrol Moisturizer. A hair mask always protect skin from chlorine, and you must apply it.

3.Load on the water-resistant SPF

It can be challenging to find water-resistant, sweatproof sunscreen that is also 100% chemical-free. If you are looking for a sunscreen with all of these qualities, look no further than Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 by Badger. If you don’t apply SPF on the skin, you might go for the chlorine rash treatment.

4.shower again

The chlorine in the pool will most likely stay on your skin and hair all day, even after you take a shower. This can be bad for your skin because of how harsh chemicals are used to create toilet bowl cleaner-like products. Please make sure you come home from swimming at least once every hour or so and wash off any excess chlorine before it dries into your pores.

5.Apply Moisturizer

Make sure to apply a moisturizer to your hair before swimming. Even if you are not going in the water, it is still essential because chlorine can strip away natural oils from the hair, leaving it dry and brittle, leading to breakage during combing or brushing of wet hair.

The Bottom Line

If you have a pool at home, it’s essential to know how to protect your skin and hair from chlorine. Protecting your skin before going into the swimming pool is vital to avoid problems like redness or irritation of the eyes, dry skin (especially for those with eczema), and even more problematic conditions such as cancer.

The same rule applies when it comes to protecting your hair; some people might not care about their scalp, but they should be aware that prolonged exposure can cause significant dandruff or, worse yet – permanent hair loss.
