5 Self Care Practices for Cannabis Consumers

Whether you use it to have a little bit of fun with your friends or if you use it as a doctor prescribed medication, we can all agree that the therapeutic qualities of marijuana are without question. Leave it to your physician to decide whether or not using cannabis can benefit you medically. But what can your everyday average users do to improve their overall quality of life?   1. Choose a healthier alternative for your munchies

Smoking your favorite strains of marijuana has a way of making us indulge in all of your unhealthiest snaking tendencies. But that doesn’t have to be the case! Next time you find yourself craving a couple of twinkies after passing around a joint with your best friends, try preparing a healthy snack instead. Cutting up fruit (apples, orange slices, melon, grapes, etc.) is a great alternative to filling up on a variety of sugary cakes and treats. Vegetable trays and dip are another great snacking choice that could improve your quality of life and lead to an overall healthier lifestyle down the road.

  1. Make breathing exercises a part of your day

Breathing is an important part of your health. And let’s face it, if you’re a regular cannabis smoker, your lungs might not be in the best working shape ever. Wake up every morning and take part in some easy deep breathing exercises before you start your day. You can also do these exercises throughout the day as a way to take a break from your busy schedule and then again once before you go to bed.

Consuming marijuana on a regular basis has a nasty way of contributing to a sedentary and unhealthy lifestyle. At least that’s what popular media would have you believe. And while there is some truth to this stereotype, it doesn’t have to be the case. Integrating a healthier diet into your lifestyle is a great way to curb some of the unhealthier aspects of smoking marijuana. Exercise is another great way to encourage a healthier lifestyle for regular users. We suggest an exercise regimen that doesn’t allow you to smoke until you’ve completely your workout for the day. Let’s face it, cannabis use can make us all a little bit lazy. So, limiting use until after you’ve been physically active for the day is a great way to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle without having to forgo using your favorite recreational substances.

  1. Do something creative

Self-care doesn’t only have to be physical. There are many aspects of your health that can be taken care of by stimulating yourself mentally. One of the best ways to do this is to engage in some kind of creative activity. Now, we know that not everyone has been blessed with the talents required to take part in creating something from scratch. But you don’t have to know how to play an instrument or know how to write songs or poetry to do something creative. Being creative can be something as simple as taking a pottery class, or painting ceramics. There are activities without number that involve a bit of creativity. Paint a model, or build a 3D puzzle. You don’t have to be a master artisan to stimulate the creative part of your brain. The best part about it is that, unlike some of our other self-care practices, this one can be done in conjunction with using your favorite cannabis products!

  1. Get outside

We know how attractive it is to sit on the couch all day watching TV and eating junk food. But, it’s important to change your surroundings once in a while. Go outside and commune with nature. Take a walk through a beautiful forest trail. Go for a hike, or a bike ride. The possibilities are nearly endless. Your body needs natural sunlight and fresh air to stay healthy and happy. Don’t deprive yourself of a healthier you just because you’re too lazy to get outside every once in a while!
